DIVX to MOV: Convert Video from DIVX(DivX Video) to MOV(QuickTime Movie) with River Past Video Cleaner, DIVX2MOV converter, conversion

What is DIVX?

DivX is a brand name of products created by DivX, Inc. (formerly DivXNetworks, Inc.), including the DivX Codec which has become popular due to its ability to compress lengthy video segments into small sizes while maintaining relatively high visual quality. The DivX codec uses lossy MPEG-4 Part 2 compression, also known as MPEG-4 ASP, where quality is balanced against file size for utility. It is one of several codecs commonly associated with "ripping", whereby audio and video multimedia are transferred to a hard disk and transcoded. Many newer "DivX Certified" DVD players are able to play DivX encoded movies, although the Qpel and global motion compensation features are often omitted to reduce processing requirements. They are also excluded from the base DivX encoding profiles for compatibility reasons.

To convert from DivX video, you will need to either get the DivX codec from www.divx.com, or use a compatible decoder like ffdShow, which is part of CCCP.

What is MOV?

Quicktime is a multimedia development, storage, and playback technology from Apple. Quicktime files combine sound, text, animation, and video in a single file. Using a Quicktime player that either comes with a Web browser or can be downloaded from Apple or the browser company, you can view and control brief multimedia sequences.

As a multimedia stardand, QuickTime is not purely linear. It could contain interactivity and causes problems when converting to other video formats.

A lot of digital cameras record video in QuickTime support.

More information can be found on Apple's QuickTime page.

To encode QuickTime movies, you will need River Past MOV Booster Pack in addition to the video software. Don't forget to have the latest QuickTime installed.

The size of the MOV file depend a lot on the chosen video compressor. River Past software are only compatible with standard codecs from Apple at this moment. Among the Apple codecs, "MPEG-4" offers the best compression.

The file size also depend on the "Quality" setting. Move the slider to the left for smaller file size, at the expense of video quality. The file size difference is significant with "MPEG-4" as the compressor.

Depending on the selected Compressor, you can control its quality, bitrate, or both.

Select the audio compressor for the conversion. Depending on the compressor, you may also change the sample rate, channel (stereo or mono), bits/sample, and bitrate.
